Sometimes who they think you are and who you really are inside are so different that you may as well be two people. Or sometimes things go wrong, horribly wrong. Or sometimes things just feel bad, really bad. And no-on gets it. Or sometimes everything’s ok. Or you just have to pretend everything’s ok. And sometimes you just want to disappear. And sometimes your head just wants to explode because the thoughts are going so fast so very very fast and the feelings are just so big so huge so very very huge and it’s all just too much and you wish that there was just someone you could talk to, someone who would stop talking to you like you were a stupid little kid and someone who would tell you the truth and somewhere you could go to figure all this mess out, all this stuff about you and them and things. there is.
What: a Support and Skills Group for Young Adults (age 13 to 18)
We cover stuff like: how to make good choices, how to deal with peer pressure, how to not hate on yourself so much, how to not do stupid things (you know what we mean), sorting out your family stuff, how to talk to people, how to stand up for yourself, how to deal with your feelings and how to protect those feelings and yourself. And lots of other important things to make your head and heart feel okay.
It is a ten week course but you can start at any time. We also offer an Assessment session and a Family session at the end (and in the middle if it␣s necessary.)
The group is guided by Desiree-Anne Martin and Jonathan Mitchell, very experienced and caring counsellors, both of whom worked at Kenilworth Clinic’s Adolescent Unit. Jonathan has a mad passion for Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (calming-way-down skills) and has successfully navigated parenting two teenagers. Desiree has a special interest in helping young adults design their lives and implement that plan. She also helps them learn to stop hurting themselves, and others. Her favourite job is being a 6 year old’s mom: though she despises Barbie and Barney.
