Well we are well on way “one day at a time” into 2012! Many changes have heralded the relatively new year. Katy has held the proverbial ship afloat while Jean has acquired her “knew knee”.
RECOVERY ASSISTANT COURSE
We started the year with “Recovery Assistant Course” in mid January and have at present 21 learners. Three of these commenced in module 2 last year, and are completing their course at the end of March. Well done Kauthar, Derek and Junaid! We have a number of new learners commencing the course in April at the start of Module 2.
MASTER CLASSES IN COMPULSIVE GAMBLING
Dr Rodger Meyer has run a 4 week master class specialising in the counselling of compulsive gamblers. We have thoroughly enjoyed having individuals and various counsellors from various centres enjoying each other’s company and sharing their knowledge and experience. We certainly hope to have more of these types of classes in the future.
Mark Emmerich and Katy have commenced a series of lecture/ discussion groups on the addictive process and the journey of recovery. These are on alternateTuesday evenings 19h30-21h00. Topics for March/ April are:
Addictive Personality 13th March
Addictive Thinking 27th March
Powerlessness & Unmanageability 10 April
Denial 24 April
Our Codependency and Boundaries workshops were enriched by the experiences that our participants brought and shared and the processes we worked on together. Next up is our favorite:
Inner Child Healling 13th April
A chance to give the child in you some of what its waiting for.
PEER SUPERVISION GROUP
A group of professionals has since the 29th of February been meeting at Prospect Hill for the supervision group. It is facilitated by Peter Powis who has a wealth of experience in relationship and addiction counselling.
THE FUTURE OF 2012
ADOLESCENT AND PARENT GROUP
We are planning to run these concurrently and you will definitely be informed once the days and times are confirmed.
CELEBRATION OF OUR 2 YEARS IN PRACTICE
We are hoping to celebrate this with an exhibition of creativity that comes with addiction and recovery. Anyone who expresses themselves in a visual manner will be invited to exhibit their work here for an evening.
COURSE IN GROUP FACILITATION
This course will be offered by Romey Russell who has many years of experience in group facilitation and is willing to share her knowledge and experience with us.
Still taking it One Day at A Time,
Jean & Katy
